Relationship begins within. Individual skills create relationship; not destiny, not by finding the right person, the "soul mate" and not by having the right dependence, contract or religious blessing.

To create a loving relationship, we must first know how to give to the essential needs of the energy living us. We have more intimacy, more control and a greater capacity to learn from the life within ourselves, so insight begins there. Once we understand how to care for the life within us, we can share our skills with others.

We live within a family and a community. Those relationships invite the belief that others cause our happiness, but we are the source. From this perspective, we can learn how to give to life what it needs to thrive. If you're not sure what your skills are, look at what your parents created. Without consciously training in new skills, we take on the skills we could see our parents modeling. We miss their unseen skills. Studying and knowing doesn't help. No matter how much you know, you cannot do until you train in doing.

To learn relationship, we need 4 basic focuses- Observation, Feelings, Needs and Requests. We need to train in the use of theses rare skills. They allow us to harmonize within ourselves, and self harmony enables us to harmonize with others.

OBSERVATION. All insight begins with Observation- the ability to perceive the nature of what is without interpretation, judgment, opinion, beliefs, and cultural values influencing and obstructing understanding.

FEELINGS AND NEEDS. If we can perceive clearly, we can feel, hear and see our feelings- the emotional energy driving the moment's actions, and we can track feelings to their source in essential human needs- the resources life requires to thrive. Hearing needs speaking through the feelings our bodies communicate with gives us the information essential to caring for life.

REQUESTS. By sharing the information within feelings and needs, we can make decisions together through requests- which give equal respect for each other's right to choose by asking for the resources that fulfill needs.

These four essential skills combine into complex skills- self connection, empathy, honesty and collaboration in joint decision making that is mutually supportive. Together they create relationships in which trust and cooperation allow merging into one coordinated whole. Fulfilling relationships give mutual assistance and support in fulfilling all life needs. Without these skills only marginal relationships can form and fall apart as the partners feel their limitations and frustrations.

Big Story: Lesser known truths about Fourth of July

A divided nation? How very American of us.

As we commemorate the 236th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, revisiting our history helps remind us how far we've come — and just what still makes up the American character. For one thing, not all the 18th-century colonialists were keen on this whole independence thing: A good half-million were Loyalists to the British crown, and hung on to their royal connections in places like New York City, Long Island, and northern Georgia through the 1780s.

The Fourth of July is also a good time to give credit where credit's due, stamp out a few myths, and find out lesser-known truths that are even juicier than the folklore.

Neglected forefather? No argument -- founding fathers Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams have name recognition (it helps that two became president). Lost in historical footnotes are the remaining members of the so-called Committee of Five in charge of drafting the Declaration: Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. And, even more neglected, is the man who first proposed the motion for a breakout from Britain.

Richard Henry Lee of Virginia was the classical yeoman farmer and a justice of the peace. The Virginia-born aristocrat benefited from an English private school education. At first an "indifferent figure," he later rose to the radical occasion and became an admired orator who, according to Patrick Henry, "reasoned well, and declaimed freely and splendidly" with a "deep and melodious" voice. At the second Continental Congress, he put forth the motion to cut maternal ties with Britain.

"That these united colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown; and that all political connexion between them and the state of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved... Let this happy day give birth to an American republic." ("Lives of the Signers to the Declaration of Independence," 1856, via Colonial Hall)

As it was his proposal, Lee would have been chair of the Committee of Five and its likely scribe, buthis wife's illness called him away. His sub: Jefferson.

Forget firecrackers -- let's burn some effigies: Pyrotechnics and pies are nice, but real Independence Day sticklers would fire off some muskets, burn some effigies of English royalty (sorry, Kate and William fans), ration out some rum, and declare war on England. Over the last 236 years, Americans have found extravagant ways to celebrate (many details courtesy of James R. Heintze, Librarian Emeritus of American University and author of "The Fourth of July Encyclopedia"):

—Pequoad Indians did a "wardance at their wigwam" in 1831 Virginia.

—Teetotalers threw a "Grand Total Abstinence Celebration" to commemorate temperance in 1842.

—An all-time record of 10,471 flags flew over the nation's capital for the 1976 Bicentennial.

—The shuttle Columbia unfurled the flag in space in 1992, but NASA outdid that in 2005 by deliberately crashing spacecraft Deep Impact into a comet.

—"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the acknowledged go-to tune but, as the Houston Chronicle points out, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" has become part of the musical salute. The ditty is actually about Russian forces vanquishing over Napoleon's at the Battle of Borodino. Credit the esteemed Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops for making the overture an adopted American anthem in their 1974 televised concert. Who's going to say no to 16 cannon blasts?

The occasion to fight for rights: Independence Day took on new meaning during the abolitionist fight: New York emancipated its slaves in 1827. Twenty-five years later, Frederick Douglass delivered his speech, "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" In 1876, the 100th anniversary, the likes of Susan B. Anthony read the Declaration of Rights for Women at the Centennial Celebration.

During World War I, celebrations took on an international theme: In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson spoke of an "international Fourth of July celebration" and in New York, 40 nationalities were represented in the "pageant parade." That same year, about 100 ships launched to help Allied forces. Other fights for rights included the 1989 flag faceoffs, as Americans protested the Bush administration's proposal to ban flag burning.

Off by two days? Not that we Americans didn't wait for a government resolution as a reason to party since 1776. John Adams sent a letter to his wife extolling the "great anniversary Festival" that generations would celebrate with "Pomp and Parade...Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other." Except he had July 2 in mind, the date when the Continental Congress approved Lee's resolution. (And this year, July 2 would've fallen on a Monday and we wouldn't have all this should-we-take-a-vacation dithering.)

Other Fourth of July myths and truths:

— King George III did not write on July 4, 1776: "Dear Diary, Nothing of importance happened today."

—Adams and Jefferson did die July 4, 1826, the Declaration's 50th anniversary. James Monroe died on July 4, 1831, and Calvin Coolidge was born July 4, 1872.

—Paperwork took a lot longer in those days: The Declaration's signing didn't begin until August 2 and finished sometime in November.

—No, Nicolas Cage didn't find a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, because if he did, he could pay off his debts and go back to doing good movies. The only thing on the back of the parchment is "Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776." There are, however, 26 copies (aka Dunlap broadsides) that do exist — all publicly owned saved one.

—Okay, if you really want a conspiracy coda, how's this: The Declaration's signatures are signed according to geography.

"John Hancock, the President of the Congress, was the first to sign the sheet of parchment measuring 24¼ by 29¾ inches. He used a bold signature centered below the text. In accordance with prevailing custom, the other delegates began to sign at the right below the text, their signatures arranged according to the geographic location of the states they represented. New Hampshire, the northernmost state, began the list, and Georgia, the southernmost, ended it." (National Archives)

Microsoft announces Windows Phone 8

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform has long been the underdog in the smartphone market. This may be because of their under-specced phones, small marketshare and relatively small ecosystem. This has caused Microsoft to work on a new major release of the operating system under the name Windows Phone 8. Microsoft has announced Windows Phone 8 and some of its new features at Windows Phone press event.

Microsoft has announced that Windows Phone 8 will finally have support for multi-core processors (up to 64 cores!), NFC, MicroSD cards and higher resolution screens. McDonald's Ranks Last in Customer Satisfaction Index

Guess many McDonald's customers aren't lovin' it. McDonald's finished last in a ranking of its restaurant peers in a report released Tuesday by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index(ACSI). Fast food restaurants Papa John's, Subway and Taco Bell all scored better than the burger giant. Among restaurants specializing in burgers, Wendy's led the pack, followed by Burger King.

The ranking isn't new territory for McDonald's, which serves 68 million customers per day. Except for 2009, when McDonald's edged ahead of of KFC and Burger King by a percentage point, McDonald's has consistently placed last in the ranking since 1995.

But Mickey D's is steadily improving. Its 73 percent satisfaction score in 2012 is a substantial gain from its all-time low of 59 percent in 2000.

McDonald's issued a statement in response to the findings: "At McDonald’s, customer satisfaction has, and continues to be, a top priority. We take all customer feedback seriously. Our internal and third-party research shows that we continue to make progress in satisfying our customers. Business results also reinforce this. In fact, the producers of the American Customer Satisfaction index said that McDonald’s customer satisfaction is at an all-time high. Still, we know we can do more by continuing to offer our customers great value, menu variety and a positive service experience every time they visit our restaurants.”

The company plans to spend $1.5 billion this year to make over its restaurants with more comfortable seating, WiFi, and McTV, reports Forbes. Recent menu changes have included smoothies, oatmeal, and bakery items. In May, McDonald's announced plans to stop buying pork from farms using gestation stalls that confine animals during the breeding and post-birth processes, a move the Humane Society of the United States considered a victory. And there is, of course, their latest claim that nothing on the menu is "unhealthy."

Overall in the survey's findings, fast food satisfaction grew 1.3 percent since last year, while full-service restaurants, including Olive Garden and Chili's, dropped 2.4 percent.

The ACSI score for each company is based on a sample of 250 customer interviews from more than 70,000 annually-conducted surveys.

Microsoft has introduced its own line of tablets, marking a major strategic shift for the software giant as it struggles to compete with Apple and re-invent its aging Windows franchise. The new tablet line, named Surface, includes a consumer device aimed directly at the Apple iPad, and another, larger machine designed to compete with lightweight laptops. Both include a keyboard that doubles as a cover, and both will be powered by versions of the new Windows 8 operating system.The move breaks with Microsoft's operating model of the past 37 years, which has relied on computer manufacturers to make and market machines running Windows. It could throw the world's largest software company into direct competition with its closest hardware partners such as Samsung and HP. The new software is the biggest overhaul of Windows in years, and features a new touch-friendly interface dubbed "Metro". It is scheduled to be available for the Christmas shopping season. The lighter, thinner version of the Surface tablet, built on an Nvidia chip designed by ARM Holdings, will be the first to market at the same time as the general release of Windows 8, and will feature Microsoft's popular Office suite of applications. It is comparable to Apple's new iPad, heavier but slightly thinner. It has a 10.6 inch screen and comes in 32GB and 64GB memory sizes.

Tennis crisis in India: Leander Paes gets association's backing

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has backed Leander Paes and said it is meaningless to send the veteran player to the London Olympics with a junior player after both Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna refused to play with him.

This comes a day after the Sports Ministry intervened to sort out the tennis crisis which could hurt India's medal hopes at the London Olympics. It asked the AITA why only one team was being sent when India can send two teams for the London Games.

"The Government has been funding and supporting multiple players to train and qualify for the Olympics. The justification of denying two players who have qualified as a team on merit by sending just one Indian team, when India can send two teams may be explained," the ministry letter said.

"Both Shri Mahesh Bhupathi and Shri Rohan Bopanna have officially declined the opportunity to play with Shri Leander Paes in the current scenario. With two days left for the deadline, wouldn't AITA be sending Paes with a youngster to represent India at London Olympics. The aforesaid action of AITA is depriving India of sending another team to London Olympics. The reasons for this may be explained.

The AITA replied today saying, "It is meaningless to send Leander Paes with a junior player. He being the best must be sent with Bopanna or Bhupathi."

Lashing out at Bhupathi and Bopanna, the AITA said: "Two players cannot make a pact to keep No.1 player out." It also said disclosed that Paes had informed them last year that he would play Olympics with Bopanna.

The tennis association also said there are four options to this resolve this crisis. "Option 1, Leander Paes partners Mahesh Bhupathi. Option 2, Rohan Bopanna partners Leander Paes. Option 3, Leander Paes partners lower-ranked player. And option 4, Mahesh, Rohan play together and Paes doesn't participate," it said.

On Friday the tennis selectors announced that only one team will be sent for the men's doubles event at the London Olympics and that will comprise of Bhupathi and Paes. Bhupathi, however, refused to play with Paes and said: "I have already told the All India Tennis Association (AITA) that I will not be available to play the Olympics if I am paired with Leander. I haven't even spoken to Leander since November."

Bhupathi asked AITA to be sent with his regular doubles partner Bopanna. "Rohan and I would have been the best pairing and we have repeatedly told the AITA that."

After Bhupathi's refusal, the AITA officially approached Bopanna but he too refused their offer yesterday. "With all respect and humility, I have been unable to accept AITA's offer and have communicated my decision to them. Since the beginning of the year, I have partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi towards playing together as a team at the Olympics. This was communicated to the AITA at every step and we were encouraged to continue to play together.

"Having played alongside Leander Paes only twice during my career, I recognise that as a team we are under-prepared for the demands of the Olympics and, in good faith, I could not accept AITA's offer that we play together."

Paes, who had earlier said that he had no problems in teaming up with either of the players, wrote to the AITA yesterday saying it was not fair to send two teams to the Olympics.

"When I sent you my unconditional participation in the Olympics, I believed we would put our best team forward for a Gold Medal. By setting up a second team as suggested by some u would create a situation where your no.1 player and the only Indian in the Top Ten ATP Doubles Rankings would have to play with the no. 5 Indian player. This would not be fair," he wrote in his letter.
